RP Metrix
is a General Partnership formed in 2004 in Princeton, New Jersey to
commercialize a
three microdrive neural recording system for use with minimally
restrained awake animals.
Based on earlier
work Dmitry Rinberg designed a lightweight three microdrive headstage for
recording from
the olfactory bulb in an awake mouse. This technology permits the
animal to interact with
its environment while fully conscious and moving about.
Dmitry Rinberg comissioned Thomas Coradetti
to scale up the supporting electronics subsystems to a 3 drive, 12
electrode implementation.
RP Metrix was formed to provide this technology to the neural research
community.
After a two year partnership, Dmitry Rinberg has reluctantly relinquished his position as
a founding General Partner of RP Metrix
and now has the honor of leading a scientific research team
at the new Howard Hughes Medical Institute
research campus Janelia Farm.
In the Summer of 2006, Hanan Davidowitz joined RP Metrix as a General Partner.
The original company name, Researcher & Paisano* Neural
Measurements, has been shortened to RP Metrix. Some have suggested that
this name is connected to a scene in the Warner Brothers movie
production "Matrix" where the character Neo swallows a Red Pill and
wakes up with a cable jack mounted on his head. RP Metrix
strongly disavows
any such connection.
